Weeds in Florida: Florida’s climate is conducive of consistent weed growth due to the lack of a long dormancy or cold period. Weeds are continuously dropping seeds and reproducing at rapid rates.

Fabric Barriers: Landscape fabric only offers a very short term solution to weed prevention as weed seeds can germinate on top of fabric and weeds can growth through fabric. Weeds even grow through the bottom of concrete swimming pools so a little bit of cloth is not going to stop them.

Hand Pulling: While hand pulling does give short term relief from weeds, it is laborious, time consuming, and pulling certain weed types can actually stimulate new growth.

Spraying Weeds: Spraying weeds to kill on contact is the most commonly used method of weed control in the industry. However, this requires seeing the weeds to spray the weeds.

Chemical Prevention: We approach weed control with the methodology that preventing weeds is much better than trying to kill already established weeds. Weeds are more difficult to kill as they mature and they also require constant contact kill spraying. We utilize “pre-emergent" products to target weeds before they are able to germinate and take over your plant beds. Pre-emergents are commonly granular products that target weed seeds and create a protective blanket throughout your landscape beds. Generally applied quarterly, pre-emergents cut down on the need for monthly contact spraying of pesticides.

Long Term Benefits: Utilizing pre-emergents to prevent weeds and reducing the need for weed spraying, generally promotes healthier landscape beds and less damage to desirable plants from overspray and drift when applying products. Pre-emergents allow for less often treatments, less overall applications, and less cost associated with hand pulling and plant replacement from spray damage.
